Surgical Critical Care focuses on the management and overall care of critically injured and acutely ill surgical patients. Fellows will complete the program with not only top notch technical expertise, but with the strongest command of all care strategies and theory. Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) is home to the Pavilion for Advanced Care, a brand new, free standing hospital that houses our Level one trauma center. Its surgical critical care fellowship program sponsors four fellows each year. 2 year Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow should have succinct knowledge of cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, ventilatory care, as well as cardiovascular monitoring and interpretation. The purpose of the Fellowship is to provide specialty training for post-graduate physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs), also known as Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Fellows care for and learn from the full range of surgical cases including transplant, advanced vascular, complex GI, urologic, and gynecologic to name a few. Fellows acquire research mentors early who then ensure milestones are achieved resulting in successful completion of projects by fellowship end. Surgical Critical Care fellowship was most recently awarded a special commendation for the program quality. Rotations in pediatric critical care are available at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center. UC San Diego offers an ACGME accredited one year Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care leading to American Board of Surgery Certification. Brian Smith - Dr. Smith is an outcomes researcher with a concentration on trauma care and gun violence. He also plays prominent roles in several leading societies including the Society for Critical Care Medicine. The goals of the program are to teach the clinical knowledge and technical skills of critical care and trauma surgery that will enable each fellow to become a confident critical care practitioner, administrator and educator. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed articles and is a true visionary in trauma theory and practice. Three positions are offered and the fellowship is designed to last for one year. He is on a multitude of international committees that shape the way in which we care for injured patients, this includes the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center/University of Maryland Medical Center is an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited program for a total of 8 positions. Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), this clinical training program prepares fellows to specialize in the interdisciplinary and comprehensive management of surgical patients with life-threatening critical illness. Fellowships. The Surgical Critical Care, Trauma, and Burn Fellowship is a well-established educational program offering exceptional training in trauma, surgical critical care and burn. Jeremy Cannon - Dr. Cannon is the Trauma Medical Director and Section Chief of Trauma. Mark Seamon - Dr. Seamon is the Director of Education for the division.
